Premier League outfit Crystal Palace are planning an ambitious swoop for former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie, according to reports from the Daily Express
Crystal Palace have most certainly shown a lot of ambition in the transfer market so far this summer by securing the services of Steven Mandanda, Andros Townsend and James Tomkins in quick succession.
In addition to the aforementioned signings, Palace are now currently in the market to sign a world class striker and it has been widely reported that the Eagles are ready to splash in excess of £30 million to secure the services of Liverpool star Christian Benteke.
Despite the huge fees being bandied about in the media, it remains to be seen as to whether Palace’s bid for Benteke will eventually come into fruition and manager Alan Pardew is understandably preparing contingency plans.
van Persie wanted by Palace
Recently the Palermo star Franco Vazquez has been mentioned as a potential target for Palace and now according to reports from the Express, it has been claimed that the London based outfit are currently planning a shock move for Robin van Persie as well.
Van Persie is currently plying his trade for Turkish side Fenerbahce but he has not enjoyed the best of spells since joining the club at the start of last season and it is widely believed that the Turkish giants want to get rid of the Dutchman this summer.
Given his availability, a number of Premier League clubs are interested in signing van Persie and Palace are reported to be one of the clubs very keen on the former Manchester United star.
At 32, van Persie is not getting any younger but his quality is undoubted – as evidenced by his time at Arsenal and Manchester United, and the Dutch star could well be the perfect signing for Palace this summer.
