It can be confirmed that Crystal Palace have missed out on the appointment of Garry Monk after the 38-year-old joined Championship outfit Middlesbrough.
A host of names have been linked with the managerial hot seat at Crystal Palace ever since the shock departure of Sam Allardyce at the end of the season and it was widely believed that the club hierarchy had identified former Leeds United boss Garry Monk as their main target.
Monk had managed to grab the attention from a host of Premier League clubs following the fine job he conducted at Elland Road last season and claims had been made that Palace were keen on acquiring the services of the 38-year-old as a replacement for Allardyce.
As a huge blow for Palace though, it can now be confirmed that Monk has decided to join recently relegated Middlesbrough instead.
To confirm the appointment, Middlesbrough released the following statement on their official website which read, “Middlesbrough FC are delighted to confirm the appointment of Garry Monk as the club’s new manager. Garry will be officially unveiled at a media conference on Monday.”
Monk is a very talented young manager with a lot of progressive ideas and missing out on his services is certainly a blow for Palace.
